As we get ready to launch our first collection, we wanted to take a look back at all the work, and fun times we had creating it. 2016 went by so fast, we moved offices twice, travelled to India, and worked our butts off to create some beautiful products to share with all of you!
The first part of Collection One features hand-woven silk tops produced by Sasha. It was really important to us to create pieces made with natural fabrics, and that showcases the beauty of the traditional crafts of the artisans we work with. A ton of work goes into the creation of each piece, from both us and the producers.
One of our favourite parts of the design process, is the sketching stage. We dive deep into Pinterest, the vogue archives, and Instagram for inspiration, really enjoying the few days we get to sit in coffee shops sketching our hearts out. By the end we have a million ideas and so many designs - we don’t know what to do with them!
We cut and rework, incorporating our favourite aspects from multiple sketches to create our final looks. Then comes the hard part, pattern drafting, draping, and sample making. We usually end up making five or six versions of each piece before we finally are ready to send it off to our producers. Fine tuning all aspects of fit and style.
We chose to work with traditional hand-woven silk for our first collection, because it's gorgeous. The fabric is hand-spun, hand-woven and hand-dyed, and then then each piece of your garment is hand cut and stitched together on a foot pedal machine, and the finishing touches and trims are done by hand. The skills and work that goes into each piece is amazing and beautiful.
We hope you love the pieces as much as we do! You can check out the new Lookbook for Collection One here.
Feeling a little bit moody the past couple of days. It might be because we're in a constant state of denial that summer is coming to an end, yet we can't help but feel ourselves transition into the fall season. Subconsciously, our brights are turning to deeps and we've been pinning turtleneck lewks on our Pinterest. You know what they say, when feeling moody, create a mood board hence this moody board.
